Is Reading on The Internet Really Reading?


You know how your teachers are always telling you how important it is to read on a regular basis? We at LPS think it's so important that we have an SSR period everyday. But is all reading the same? Specifically, do you benefit from reading on the internet as much as you benefit from reading a book? Are you using the same skills when you navigate a website as when you read a chapter for your English class?

Voices of LPS Richmond Milestone



Sometime in the last 24 hours, our blog received its 5,000th visit. The first post occurred on March 27th, meaning that we have averaged over 1250 site visits each of our first four months.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed up to this point and thank you to all of the dedicated readers. We look forward to the upcoming school year and making Voices an even better representation of the LPS Richmond community.

Education, Not Bombs, Fights Terrorism


If you pay attention to the words and actions of our current government, it may seem that the only way to fight terrorism in the world is by starting wars - the War in Iraq, the War in Afghanistan, to name a few.

But according to this article, there is a much more effective tool - education! Read about Greg Mortenson and how he has fought terrorism by building schools in Afghanistan, not by dropping bombs.
