Small New York City School That Shares The Same Dream as LPS Richmond

That dream? Send all of its students to college. The "Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice" in Fort Greene, Brooklyn just had its first graduating class, and like LPS Richmond, almost all of their graduates will be heading off to college. Read about their school by clicking here. Anything sound familiar?

LPS San Jose's Online Newspaper

One of our sister schools, LPS San Jose, produced an online newspaper called "Catalyst" this past school year. It's a pretty impressive piece of work, especially because it is completely student produced. Check it out by clicking here.

I would like to see LPS Richmond students running an online newspaper next year.

How about you? Vote below.

In Brooklyn, A Prom for All Nations

Check out this very cool video about International High School's first prom. The Brooklyn school is made up students who have all immigrated to the U.S. recently. Watch them prepare for this very American tradition. This is a fantastic story.

Have A Great Summer/Be Safe!!!

I hope everyone has a great summer. Be safe and we will see you again next year. Thank you to all of those students and parents who have stuck by Leadership Public Schools Richmond and all those new students who have arrived. Together the student body was able to step up to the challenge of creating a better school for the sake of the future of both the students and the school as a whole. Each student at this school has the capacity to achieve what she or he wants in life. Having more opportunities comes from more education. I urge all students to take this education process seriously, for the amount of work equals the amount of opportunities that lay before you.

Again, have a great summer!!!!

Mr. Merlino

Tutor Ticket BBQ

Last Wednesday, 10 advisories that had worked very hard to complete 98% of their tutor tickets over the past 5 weeks were rewarded with the Tutor Ticket BBQ at the Richmond Marina. Burgers were grilled, softballs were thrown, touchdowns were scored, and KMEL showed up to provide the soundtrack. Thanks goes out once again to Ms. Kim for organizing the event. Thanks Ms. Kim!

Below is a great slide show from the event, courtesy of Ms. Ram. Nice shots - she's obviously a pro!
